Why, hello slawwich…
Lunch today: turkey, with red cabbage and carrot vinegar-based slaw, avocado and tomatoers. Have to toot my own horn here, it was bright and filling.

Home-cooked din din from last night. Gastrodamus daydreamed it and thus it was born: Greek-style roasted chicken, cinnamon golden raisin & carrot couscous with almond slivers, and Russian banana fingerling potatoes. I assisted, champagne flute in hand ;p

What’s up doc? Moroccan carrot salad and rosemary fingerling potatoes made in Midtown Kitchen for my holiday potluck.

Day 3 in Austin. As you can tell at this point, when BVSC says we’re gonna eat our way through a city we mean it. Which brings us to a magical place called Eastside Cafe, where hippies roam free and Braised Bombshell has to be held down with non-recyclable straps to keep her from running away with them. You may ask yourself why we included pictures of chicken here, the answer is simple. The cafe raises them in their backyard to use their eggs! Maybe it’s because BVSC is city folk but we spent a good 15 minutes taking pictures of roosters and walking through the herb garden.
Had to post my homemade lunch today. No frills, no fuss, just a bunch of incredible ingredients and a rumbling stomach.
Perhaps I’ll start a new BVSC series: Summer Salads and their Gluttonous Tossers. I’m an avid advocate of adding fruits to offset typical salad components. Today I went wild - watermelon, strawberries, lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado (some fatty to coat your palette). I decided on a ginger dressing, result: perfection.
The sandwich was another clusterf$%# of nom noms. Sourdough bread, turkey, chaumes cheese, raspberry and apricot preserve, balsamic onion spread, avocado, and Giardiniera peppers (need that spicy).
Ouff, now I nap!

Found a little local hole in the wall for anyone living in Wynwood to hang out while drinking some coffee and checking out emails: Lester’s. Between glasses of pinot grigio with my cousin I took a few bites of these local cookies: Ginny cookies. Flavor: cherry chocolate.
So I finally got up my lazy butt and bought some ingredients to make my first recipe off of a new cookbook I recently purchased, The Everything Cast-Iron Cookbook. Actually Gastrodamus’s friend authored it so I had that much more pressure to make this look nomnacious. I went simple and baked the Dutch Apple Baby recipe since I’ve never ever had one before. I made a few modifications: had pears instead of apples and used some brandy when caramelizing the pears. The result? A puffy light treat that tastes like a fluffy french toast stuffed with Bartlett pears. Yeah, exactly, no way this can go wrong ;)

Wanna see what lazy foodie looks like: PASTA! This Monday has rendered me utterly brain dead; that means sauteing kale, broccoli, asparagus, chicken, and Italian squash into Batali’s spicy Arrabiata sauce, throw in some whole wheat linguine and voila! 15 minutes later you have thought-free dinner. Bellissimo :)
